Ketchup CAD model
@ 28. Apr 2008 – 06:40:04 pm
Last night I sent Peter Reed my 3DS model of my ketchup bottle so that he could have a look at it prior to getting it made by rapid prototyping. I ran an STL check on it (STL is the file format that a rapid prototype machine uses) and it found something like 42 errors, which I don't know what they are, or how to fix them, so I hope Peter can make heads or tails of it.

Group tutorial - 24th April
@ 24. Apr 2008 – 03:44:03 pm
A group tutorial with Andrew and three other students today helped me work out the plan for the next for weeks... to the final deadline for all my studio work.
Now this is how my final submission for level 3 stands...
1. Dissertation (50% of submission)
2. A number of Studio Projects (collectively making other 50% of submission)
Studio project one - Packaging the Seven Deadly Sins
Studio project two - Packaging Heinz Ketchup in an Aerosol
Studio project three - Re-thinking the way people buy fruit and vegetables in supermarkets.
I have scrapped the idea of doing another small project and continuing with project three into more depth. My Seven Sins project is now pretty much complete (a visual exploration and gimicky products to place these graphics on).
My Ketchup project, I need to work out how to make a 3d prototype of the final design, and I will be speaking to Peter Reed about this. My tutors do not believe that my original idea of a rapid prototyped model would show the way in which this "squeezy aerosol" would work.
I have been thinking about the presentation of all three projects for the final pin up....

Progress across all projects
@ 11. Apr 2008 – 03:26:35 pm
I got a copy of my dissertation to Wendy to begin reading whilst I work on my photograph exhibition which is due to be put up before next Friday. The real and final copy of my dissertation is at a bookbinding company being professionally hard backed and the pages sewn together.

I have created seven deadly sin 2D keyrings. I plan to look into developing these into 3D keyrings shortly using a rapid prototyping machine.
The keyrings come in a series featuring each sin: wrath, envy, pride, greed, sloth, lust and gluttony.
Due to sloth and lust (bottom middle row, second and third along) printing so darkly, I readjusted the levels of the image and got these two reprinted (see below).
My original brief was to package the seven deadly sins. Last week I came across a product which uses the seven deadly sins as a theme (see below).
This product is a box of chocolates and within the main box contains seven individual round boxes, one for each sin. They each contain a flavoured chocolate relating to the sin of the box in which it is in.
The chocolate-flavour association can be seen below on the products label.
I also experimented with the idea of printing these sins on a mug. Then using a thermochromic pigment black paint over the top of the image, so that when boiling water is poured into the mug, the black disappears and the sins image appears. The before and after images can be seen below.

Updated design for Seven Sins Mug
@ 04. Apr 2008 – 02:37:05 am
I have subtley added the words of each sin to make it extra obvious which sin is which. It has come to my attention that not everyone is aware what the seven deadly sins are. They are able to name two, possibly three but not all. I am assisting their knowledge. A teacher of the sins if you will.
Oh, it is also brighter due to not printing very well. Sloth printed so dark that it was almost not possible to see the image. Was very dissappointing, but hopefully I have now amended this.

Dissertation draft
@ 01. Apr 2008 – 01:38:48 am
I handed in my final dissertation draft to Wendy today for her to read over and give me some feedback. The end is coming so fast.
