Lauren Hyndman: Final Year of Design Degree

I am interested in using textiles in design. I have some past experience designing using textiles and would like to further develop my passion for it.

I think I am going to do a bit of research into the variety of textiles and its current uses.

To get me started, I am going to read "Extreme Textiles: Designing for High Performance" by Matilda McQuaid, "Techno textiles : revolutionary fabrics for fashion and design" by Sarah Braddock, and "Techno textiles 2" by Sarah Braddock.

I need to track them down in the Library

Designing for children??

Education?

Entertainment?

Personal health, safety and hygiene?

Thank you to everyone who has been providing me with suggestions for my design work.

Although all are fantastic suggestions for smaller projects, I need to be looking at broader areas at the moment so that I can be finding design problems within those areas and therefore solutions within the bigger issues. I am hoping to find several problems that can be solved within those bigger issues.

Right now I am after issues that I can overcome by designing solutions in the future. I am not looking for solutions just yet, just an area to research into that may be a possible path to go down for my third year work.

Is this making sense or am I rambling?

Okay, I have had a think.....

I want to design to help people not just design items that look "pretty" but have no real needed function. I want to design inclusively.

My cousin has cerebal palsy , so I have a personal connection with that disability. For the past couple of years I have been interested in learning more about cerebal palsy. I have seen my younger cousin struggle with day to day activities that most people don't even think twice when doing them, and I have always thought that maybe I could use my design skills to help him.

Is this a viable project??

And so, stage one of the research begins....

So... the time for the start of a new design project is here again!!

Firstly I need a few design proposals to kick off the research.....

....better get thinking!!
